Hornsby, Australia-based ARMS Global Group received PPMS certification last month from ACA International, the trade group for collectors.

The Professional Practices Management System (PPMS) for collection agencies is based upon developing, implementing and adhering to a set of industry-specific professional practices and policies, according to the ACA. A required foundational training session teaches 17 basic elements of PPMS and how to develop company manuals and procedures and work instructions to support the PPMS program. An ACA spokesperson says it can take at least a year for a firm to meet PPMS requirements for certification.

The PPMS program is designed to increase profitability by standardizing and continuously improving company processes, according to the spokesperson. In addition, certified firms can use the program as a marketing tool with clients and creditors.

Currently 38 agencies are PPMS certified, according to the spokesperson. More than 980 staff from 565 agencies has gone through PPMS training since the program began in 2001, according to the spokesperson.

ARMS Global Group operates offices in five Australian states and New Zealand with more than 60 staff.
