SSIMED, LLC, provider of physician software and services, is pleased to announce certification by SureScripts®, operators of the Pharmacy Health Information Exchange™. SureScripts certification allows for interoperability with the nation’s community pharmacies which improves the safety and efficiency of the prescribing process and the quality of patient care. Physicians using SSIMED’s EMRge™ electronic health record application can now connect directly with local pharmacies connected to the Pharmacy Health Information Exchange, operated by SureScripts.

This certification will allow providers to establish a two-way computer-to-computer connection with the majority of pharmacies in their area. Using this connection, providers can send prescriptions electronically to the patient’s pharmacy of choice before the patient leaves the provider’s office. No longer will patients need to worry about losing paper prescriptions or pharmacies having to call offices to verify difficult to read prescriptions. When a patient needs a prescription refilled, a pharmacy will be able to send the request to the provider’s office electronically, eliminating the need for time consuming phone calls and faxes.

"Our providers look towards EMRge Electronic Health Records to offer time saving benefits for them and their office staff. Through various partnerships, EMRge is able to check for drug interactions, print patient medication sheets, and check prescription coverage at the point of care. We are excited about becoming a SureScripts Certified Solution Provider™ and the opportunity to connect to the Pharmacy Health Information Exchange because it will save our doctor’s offices hours of work each week when dealing with patient prescriptions or refills. Additionally, it will reduce potential errors with prescriptions due to misread handwriting," said Frank Perrotta, executive vice president and CIO of SSIMED.

“It’s exciting to work with an established provider of electronic health record systems like SSIMED, who recognizes the value of pharmacy interoperability in a clinical environment,” said Rick Ratliff, chief operating officer of SureScripts. “By connecting its clients to the Pharmacy Health Information Exchange, SSIMED is enabling physicians to increase office efficiency, save time and, most importantly, improve patient safety. A direct electronic connection with pharmacies is central to eliminating the faxes, phone calls and other potential points for error in the prescribing process.”
