Members of the Commercial Collection Agency Association (CCAA) of the Commercial Law League of America (CLLA) report that business-to-business or commercial accounts, received by CCAA members declined sharply in the Fourth Quarter of 2010.
The dollar amount and the number of these accounts placed for collection declined by approximately 27% from the Fourth Quarter of 2009.
CCAA members reported the following regarding collectability of the accounts they received during the Fourth Quarter of 2010 compared to the Third Quarter of 2010:
RESULTS | FOURTH QUARTER 2010 | FOURTH QUARTER 2010 |
Collectability increased compared to Q3 2010 | 25% | 15% |
Collectability remained the same compared to Q3 2010 | 54% | 56% |
Collectability decreased compared to Q3 2010 | 21% | 29% |
Collectability of accounts placed in the Fourth Quarter of 2010 improved over the accounts placed during the Third Quarter of 2010.
Emil Hartleb, Executive Director of the CCAA stated, “These figures reflect the general condition of the U.S. economy which is experiencing a slow recovery from the recession that began in 2008. While wholesale sales and other commercial transactions are improving, they are not improving at a rapid rate. The consensus forecast of most economists is that the economy is expanding at a tepid pace and this recovery is shaping up to be a jobless recovery. Such a scenario is not good news for the U.S.”
