The American Medical Association released the latest update to the Current Procedural Terminology code set, which subscribers should begin using January 1, 2013.

The additions for 2013 include 116 CPT new codes for molecular pathology tests, as well as codes to reflect changes in modern physician practices and innovations in cardiology, neurologic testing, and psychiatry.

There are also new codes to better reflect the practices of patient-centered medical homes and accountable care organizations, specifically in the form of new care coordination codes related to reporting on time spent “connecting patients to community services, transitioning them from inpatient to other settings and preventing readmissions,” the AMA reports.

The AMA’s press release announcing the CPT code changes can be found here.
