About a week ago more than 100 senior executives representing 60 larger market participants gathered in Washington, D.C. for the third annual Larger Market Participant (LMP) Summit, produced by insideARM.com and the iA Institute.

This is the only event each year that provides a forum for these executives to interact candidly with peers who have similar challenges, in a sales-free environment. There is no exhibit hall, and only a small number of sponsors, whose representatives have the background that allows them to contribute productively to the conversations. Thank you once again to TransUnion, LexisNexis, and Ontario Systems for supporting this event and making this high quality interaction possible.

Discussions were geared exclusively to LMPs, and because the experience level of all in the room was similar, conversations started at a deep and specific level, without having to review the basics.

We surveyed the participants after the event concluded.  Some of the highest-rated sessions included:  Current trends in consumer litigation, Voice analytics, Scoring, and multiple unstructured Meet & Greet sessions with the CFPB (each having no less than four but as many as six representatives from across various departments of the Bureau).

While most of the event was devoted to active roundtable discussions versus panels or presentations, the day kicked off with a very interesting description from Joann Needleman of her experience so far on the CFPB’s Consumer Advisory Board.

Some of the feedback received:

“This event was one of the best. I absolutely love having LMP’s in the same place talking about the things that matter to us. [At other] events, there is such a mix of different entities that it is difficult to focus on the issues that impact everyone the most. I don’t have the same struggles as a litigation attorney, or a small agency. There are not a lot of events that LMP’s can attend together like this. The format is great with breakouts and I cannot even begin to tell you how much I appreciate not being bombarded by sponsors throughout the day…that is one of the reasons I usually stay away from the shows. I was a little hesitant seeing some of the sponsors present in some of the breakout sessions, but very grateful that none turned the discussions into a pitch for their product. They helped contribute and their thoughts were not one-sided. One of the most successful events I have ever attended. I will most certainly be back next time …home run!”

“I walked away from the LMP Event feeling like it was time and money well spent. It was a very strong group of participants, the format was excellent, the venue was a good fit for the event and the dinner at OStreet was a great way to wrap the day. Excellent conference, thank you all for everything you are doing to advance the cause of our industry.”

“This is my favorite meeting of the year. I would not miss it. I really appreciate that the attendees are highly educated about the topics so we don’t waste time listening to all the basics. We get down to problem solving and real world applications.”

“My first; won’t be my last! Only concern was I was unable to attend all the various sessions and had to “pick” when what I really wanted was both, in some cases!”

“I thought the CFPB session allowed unique and special interaction not available elsewhere.”

“This is the first Larger Market Participant Summit that I have attended. I really enjoyed it and found it to be informational. There obviously was a lot of time and effort put forth in the preparation of this event.”

“Great job. I’ve enjoyed every Summit, including the first, but it has improved noticeably with each event. Can’t wait till next year’s!”

“Hands down I wish there were more events like this versus trade shows. This is better for all involved. I got to talk to people about real issues and how they thought and were trying to solve them and they got to talk to me about how we think and solve those same things.”
